When is a trailer released?

Most film trailers are released at the same time that the video itself is being edited.

The trailers advertise the release date for the film, meaning they have to be released at the perfecting timing. If the trailer is released too soon, the hype for the film will have been and gone by the time the film is released and people would no longer be interested. However, if the trailer is released too late then the film wouldn't have been as advertised as possible to reach is maximum potential in terms of gaining a wider audience.

Star Wars: 

Some bigger blockbuster movies such as Star Wars release their trailers a lot more in advance than others due to the speculation and excitement of the trailers.


The original trailer for Star Wars was released on the 16th of April. However the film itself isn't due to be released until the 18th of December.
