PIANO SEQUENCE: not including in final edit

For part of our trailer, we wanted to use music in which we recorded ourselves as well as using a soundtrack. Here is the video recording of Chrissy playing the 2003 peter pan theme tune. We recorded her on the camera rather than voice recording as we wanted to use some of footage in our trailer as well.  However the piano piece doesn't sound right with John Mayer's song 'Say' which we think is more effective for our trailer, so we have decided not to use it in our final edit. We have tried many times in a variety of ways to blend the two tracks together however it just wasn't working. However I still think that it is very important to document it on the blog as we went to a lot of effort to try and make this work before deciding not to use it, which often happens in the film industry. We filmed from two different angles however I have only included one in this video as the other is not essential and was only for use in the trailer to use a bigger variety of shots.

Here are some images of some of the places we tried to record the music which didn't work. In the end we recorded the video at Scarlet's house.

RISK ASSESSMENT: How We Applied It

Location

Train station:

  • Wet ground and rain: move with caution to ensure we didn't fall onto the track.
  •  Cold: make sure our actress was warm
  • In the case that an injury: depending on the severity of the injury we could either take them back to Scarlets house (2 minutes walk) to seek appropriate treatment or take them to hospital in a serious case.

Kitchen:
  • Hot water: the water wasn't boiled so it couldn't have burned her
  • Aga: warn Chrissy when near it
  • If someone got burnt: run the burn under cold water
  • Dropping her phone: we used a fake phone so that there was no smashed glass etc. This could be a danger to others.

Bedroom:
  • On the bed: everyone acted responsibly

Car:
  • Pushing on any pedals, move the gearstick or the handbrake: warned actors before hand
  • Using special effects (SFX): we got quite wet so got changed into warm clothes after to ensure we didn't get too cold

Motorway:
  • Busy road: we were with a friend incase one of us got hurt, in this event we would have called the ambulance.

Street:
  • Cars and people: we were careful, made sure we weren't in the way of others and always kept an eye out for cars

Hospital:
  • Not allowed to film patients or staff: we had to be patient when waiting for staff and patients to move out of the shots

Bathroom:
  • Plastic bottles: we made sure they were all plastic and empty so couldn't hurt anyone or break

FILMING: Day 5

Yesterday we filmed our final shots of the motorway and the light of the sun going in and out of focus.

We originally wanted to film the road  as a time lapse however due to not owning the correct equipment and lack of time to set up the camera for a whole day we decided to film for a few minutes, experimenting with the focus and then speed up the footage on iMovie.

We thought the M4 would be an ideal location to film the car shot as its very busy and has enough lanes to look interesting and different. We found a bridge using google maps, before setting off with our tripod. We had to make sure the camera stayed very still for the shot to work and look smooth.

The sunlight shot was very simple. Scarlet was able to do this when the sun came out really briefly this morning as she just stepped outside her house, focused on the sun and went in and out of focus.
